What do you mean by Sentences? What are the elements of sentence?
Sentences:
A sentence expresses a statement, a command, a question, a wish, or an exclamation. The starting point in understanding how to structure sentences is to know their two essential parts they are the subject and the predicate.Elements
The Subject: The subject is the part of a sentence that tells who or what is being discussed. There are three types of subjects they are:
1) The Complete Subject: It includes all words related directly to the subject. The complete subject is in bold in the following examples:
- Hellu dances.
-Hellu, an seven-year-old girl, reads so brilliantly.
- The finance development completed the inventory of computers.
2) The Simple Subject: The simple subject of a sentence is the main noun or pronoun in the complete subject. It names who or what is performing the action, receiving the action, or existing in the state of being described in the sentences. For examples:
-The beautiful vase fell from the table.
- The rose garden was planted by the local garden club.
3) The Compound Subject: Two (or more) simple subjects connected by a coordinate conjunction from a compound subject. A Coordinating conjunctions join equal or like ideas within a sentence; examples includes and,or,but,nor,for,so and yet.The following sentences have the compound subject in bold print and the complete subject in Italics. The coordinating conjunctions is underlines.
-Teacher and his staff work to keep health care costs down.
The Predicate:
It is the part of a sentence that tells something about the complete subject. It consists of a verb with or without phrases or words that modify the verb, serve as its object, or complement the verb. The predicate may be complete, simple, or compound.
1) The Complete Predicate:
It includes the verb and all the words directly related to it, including modifiers and objects. For examples;
- Cats eat slowly.
- Cricket and football ticket prices are decreasing.
-Dibya quickly completed her first assignment in her new job at the foreign ministry.
2) The Simple Predicate:
The main verb in the complete predicate. The verb expresses action a state of being. For examples:
- The team left quickly..
- The package was sent by overnight express.
- The Bank and distribution center moved last week to another part of the city.
3) The Compound Predicate:
It is formed when two(or more) simple predicates are connected by a coordinating conjunction. The compound predicate is in bold print in these examples are as below:
- Hari sails weekly and races monthly.
- The school roommates ate dinner and went to a movie.
- Rupesh rode the car or walked to school each day.
